BP halts rig build for Alaskan Beaufort drilling

Anchorage-BP has suspended construction of a large, Parker Drilling Company rig being built on site for use at Liberty, an offshore deposit in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea that BP plans to develop by using extended-reach wells drilled from onshore, a company spokesman said November 30. The suspension was ordered due to techni- cal and engineering problems encountered with the rig, BP spokesman Steve Rinehart said.
