GLOBE: A WORLDWIDE HANDS-ON SCIENCE AND EDUCATION PROGRAM For over 20 years, the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program has been a leader as an international science and education program that connects a network of students, teachers and scientists to better understand, sustain and improve Earth's environment at local, regional and global scales. The goals of the program are to improve student achievement in science and mathematics, contribute to the scientific understanding of Earth and enhance environmental awareness. Students conduct scientifically meaningful environmental measurements, report their data to the GLOBE website (www.globe.gov), visualize and analyze their data, and collaborate with scientists and other GLOBE students and communities worldwide. Since the launch of GLOBE in 1995, millions of students in more than 30,000 schools in 118 countries have participated in GLOBE. More than 145 million measurements have been contributed to the GLOBE science database, creating standardized, research-quality data sets that can be used in support of student and professional scientific research in the four GLOBE spheres: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Pedosphere (Soil).
