This study includes 21 patients with polycystic kidney disease with a suspicious or indeterminate lesion seen on routine ultrasound. Nonenhanced images of the abdomen were obtained as well as post-contrast images during the nephrographic phase. In addition, virtual nonenhanced images were obtained. Many patients with polycystic kidney disease have innumerable large cysts causing architectural distortion. Some of these cysts may have irregular walls or internal hemorrhage. Ultrasound surveillance can be difficult with the large field necessary to review the entire kidney. Hemorrhagic cysts and solid renal masses can get confused in this setting.
