Inside the Numbers: New Research and New Insight on Dentistry in Canada

Dentistry is evolving. Our success, as a profession and as practitioners, depends on adapting to the challenges and changes that lie ahead. First, however, we need to ensure that we have a clear understanding of the current landscape. This understanding cannot be built on theory or speculation. It must be based on solid and substantive research. Over the past year we have undertaken that research, within the profession and among the public. Here's what we've discovered. There is a discrepancy-a significant one-between how dentists view the dentist-patient experience and how patients perceive their dentists. While this discrepancy is troubling, it is also a tremendous opportunity for us to educate, inform and increase awareness among Canadians about the importance of oral health and the critical role we play. Let's start with what our patients told us-about us.
