IT/OT integration-Is it safe?

Information technology (IT) includes conventional computers, operating systems, networking components and software platforms. All IT developments continue to increase in importance for industrial control system and other operational technology (OT) networks. Industry analysts point out that IT skills are becoming increasingly more vital to the success of operations networks and automation initiatives, and are driving IT and OT groups together. In addition, the information from OT systems and networks is increasingly more valuable to the business group. Result: Not only are IT and OT groups merging, but these networks are also more interconnected. With such interconnections, the hydrocarbon processing industry (HPI) must consider the question: Is IT/OT integration safe?
