Georgia-Pacific (GP) is committing up to $100 million to construct a 26-mile wastewater pipeline from its Foley dissolving pulp mill in Perry, FL, to the Gulf of Mexico, local press reported. The former Buckeye Technologies mill expects to improve water quality when the project is completed. Environmentalists said the pipeline will worsen river pollution, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. GP said it has spent $74 million inside on process improvements inside the mill to improve water quality and expects to spend $70-$ 100 million over the next five to seven years on the pipeline project.
