Reappraisal of NK foliar nutrition in tea

A couple of decades back, foliar application of zinc, manganese and boron has been recommended to alleviate micronutrient deficiency (Chandra Mouli and Venkata Ram, 1978) and to cater the need of mother bushes recovering from pruning. Since then, periodical modifications and refinements in foliar application of micronutrients were evolved to sustain the crop productivity (Ranganathan and Natesan, 1982; 1987a,b; Chandra Mouli and Agnihothrudu, 1991; Verma and Palani, 1997). In early 1980's, thiourea,potassium nitrate and their combinations were tried in tea for crop productivity and compartmentalization profiles of the harvest where these inorganic chemicals were applied only in April and September at the rate of 2000 ppm (Anon., 1982; Ranganathan et al, 1983).
