Minnesota Council to Adopt Coast Guard Cutter Culbertson

The Minnesota Council of Navy League will adopt the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Edgar Culbertson, the 37th fast-response cutter (PRC), when the cutter is commissioned in Houston on May 20. The Culbertson is named after Petty Officer 1st Class Edgar Culbertson, a boatswain's mate who died in the line of duty trying to rescue three teenage brothers during a fierce storm in Duluth, Minnesota, in April 1967. All were lost during the rescue attempt. Culbertson was posthumously awarded the Coast Guard Medal for his bravery and heroism in the rescue attempt.
