What is a 'Product'?

In the world of language the word product is a victim of abuse. It has come to mean, "whatever residue remains when the activity of a project ceases." The residue may be nothing but smoldering wreckage, or it may be solid gold. The more refined and more useful sense of product is something that is useful to others, so useful, in fact, that others are willing to trade money for it.
