Introduction

The contribution of electric/electronic components and systems in current societal challenges - including energy transition - are well known. This is visible through the dynamism of electrical engineering research laboratories. The scientific and technical issues addressed today are directed towards the following main topic: analysis of new components for the conversion and transportation of energy, environmental impact analysis of components and systems and design (taking into account those impacts in a life-cycle approach) and, finally, the study of efficient, reliable, compact and integrated energy production and recovery systems including global optimization approaches.
