On Translating Internet Neologisms from Chinese to English

With the Internet information updating quickly, the Internet neologisms grow to be an amazing language feature of the modern era, and they play a more and more important role in our daily life. This study investigates relevant literature on Internet neologisms, including their definition, reasons for their appearance and features; and the author adopts Peter Newmark's categorization of text types--expressive, informative and vocative. Based on these, this research proposes translation methods such as literal translation, literal translation with explanation, Transliteration with Explanation and free translation to effectively convey the Internet neologisms from Chinese to English. The study of Internet neologisms translation from Chinese to English has great significance both in cross-culture communication and in enriching English language.
