'D' Annulus Corrosion in Offshore Gas Production Facilities

In response to the identified threat of corrosion in the 'D' annulus Woodside Energy initiated an inspection campaign of the topside wells on its gas producing facilities. Significant corrosion was detected in several wells with up to 90% wall loss measured on one well casing. To date no perforations have been detected. Inspections have been conducted on approximately half of the wells with the base line survey due for completion by the end of 2004. To mitigate against further corrosion and subsequent consequences a Corrosion Management Strategy has been developed and implemented by Woodside Energy.
