With increasing complexity of product and labor division, the modular organization has emerged in large numbers and spread fast. There has been a unique knowledge sharing mode between members of the modular organization. The knowledge that is required in the designing process to some extent can be divided, combined and linked with each other via common design rules. Some scholars believe that the modular organization has some unique advantages in supporting innovation. Without considering the issue of"compatibility", each module can be simultaneously developed and produced, which can enhance both the innovation efficiency and the "fault tolerance" level. On the other hand, product modules can be recombined into different forms of terminal products, which can even create new values. This implies the existence of a unique influence mechanism of innovation. Within the modular organization, with respect to self-owned knowledge stock, different members show a great variety. Among members, the intensity of knowledge sharing can influence their knowledge stocks, and affect both technical and market innovations by different means. Unfortunately, the existent literature does not pay enough attention to this mechanism. With regard to the innovation influence mechanism, this research constructs a model based on knowledge sharing, knowledge stock and innovation performance. Firstly, drawn on the existing literature, we further classify the modular organization’s own knowledge stock. The modular organization is composed of system integrator and module supplier. The system integrator owns the structure knowledge, and the module suppliers owns module knowledge. Overlapping between the two is the mutual linking design rule that states the mutual shared interface knowledge among the system integrator and the module supplier. Secondly, it discusses the relationship between knowledge sharing and knowledge stock, and the variation of knowledge stock within the organization. Knowledge sharing is measured by two variables, namely, problem solving and communication frequency. Knowledge sharing level will affect the interface knowledge stock. The interface knowledge directly influences both integrated knowledge and core knowledge. The change of interface knowledge stock will lead to knowledge stock change of the system integrator and the module suppliers respectively, but the directions are completely different. Finally, this research discussed the relationship between different knowledge stock and technological & market innovation. Members’ knowledge formed the basis of, and played the key role in innovation occurrence. Based on existing literature analysis, departing from the direct impact of knowledge sharing on interface knowledge, this paper discussed the linkage between interface knowledge, and market & technological innovations. Based on the sample data collected from enterprises located in Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Shenzhen and Beijing, we used structural equation modeling to carry out hypothesis testing. The results concluded that integrated problem solving and frequent communication among the modular organization members result in more interface knowledge shared. Therefore, the system integrator could obtain more integrated knowledge and the module supplier could obtain less core knowledge. The core knowledge obtained by modular supplier and the integrated knowledge obtained by system integrator will benefit technology innovation. The integrated knowledge obtained by system integrator will benefit market innovation. Based on the analysis of empirical results, we put forward some management recommendations with the goal of helping domestic enterprises to join the modular organization.%随着产品复杂程度的不断增加及分工的不断深入,经济组织的形态发生了巨大变化—模块化组织大量涌现并迅速流行.组织中存在不同类型的知识存量,成员间知识共享程度影响知识存量变化,后者又与企业的创新绩效发生联系.本文采集中国多地企业样本数据,运用结构方程建模方法,研究模块化组织中不同成员知识共享对创新绩效的影响机制.结果表明:模块化组织成员的问题一体化解决程度越高、沟通越频繁,所共享的接口知识越多;接口知识越多,系统整合者的集成知识越多,模块供应商的内核知识越少;系统整合者、模块供应商的集成知识与内核知识越丰富,越有利于技术创新.系统整合者的集成知识越丰富,越有利于市场创新.
