[Also in Divisions C2 and C3] The digestion of borine serum albumine (BSA) by pepsin enzyme is investigated by labelling the BSA with the nitroxide free radical 2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3-isocyanato-pyrrolidine-1-oxyl and then observing the electron spin resonance spectrum of the labelled material during the digestion process. There is reference to labelling other biologically active molecules e.g. enzymes and antibody preparations with the nitroxide radical. The radical can be combined with a fluoroescent dyestuff or radioactive tracer and the product used for labelling.
