PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce the quantity of calculation required for quantization by applying vector quantizing code book design to a set of coefficient vectors of an orthogonal polynomials in applying information source vector orthogonal polynomial approximation so as to save the memory quantity of a code book. CONSTITUTION:A sender side obtains a coefficient vector with respect to an input vector to a quantizer, a recovered vector with the least distance thereto is found out from the code book and its number (m) is sent. The receiver side obtains (Btheta, B1,...,B0) from the coefficient vector with respect to the number (m), calculates (Y1, Y2,...,Yk) by Yj=Btheta+B1zeta1, k(uj)+...+Bpzetap, k(uj) to form the result as a final output vector. The coefficients (S'1, k, S'2, k,...,S'p, k) are stored in the memory of the sender and receiver sides. Since the objects of the quantity of calculation required for the distance computation become (p+1)-th dimensional vectors, the addition/subtraction and multiplication are reduced to (p+1)/k.
