PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a residual stress evaluation method capable of nondestructively evaluating residual stress on a waterjet peening processed surface in a reactor.;SOLUTION: Peening traces are sampled from an image photographed the waterjet peening processed surface. The whole area or the number of peening traces per unit area is measured. Then, the residual stress is evaluated by substituting it into a relational expression between the residual stress and the whole area or the number of peening traces, prepared in advance. Or, a surface area increasing rate after and before peening work is calculated, and the residual stress is evaluated by substituting it into a relational expression between the residual stress and surface area increasing rate, prepared in advance. Thus, the residual stress on the peening processed surface is nondestructively evaluated under internal circumstances in the nuclear reactor.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
