The method involves developing an electric field between inflow opening side electrode (4) and downstream positively polarized electrode (5). The negatively charged fine particles are removed by depositing on upstream side of perforated plates and positively charged dust particles are removed by depositing on downstream side of perforated plates. The chargeless fine particles are separated by charging in an ionization space (8) and depositing on downstream side of final perforated plate. An independent claim is included for a device for electrostatically separating fine particle of particulate matter.
