PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of conventional layout methods, in which multiple cell candidates cannot be used efficiently.;SOLUTION: In accordance with an embodiment, the automatic layout program divides a layout area into multiple divided areas, and estimates margin degree relating to a characteristic parameter, for each divided area. For divided areas having large margin degree, the automatic layout program executes layout optimization processing, preferentially applying cell candidates each having a large characteristic value relating to the characteristic parameter, and for divided areas having small margin degree, executes the layout optimization processing, preferentially applying cell candidates each having a small characteristic value relating to the characteristic parameter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
