The process comprises performing thermo chemical enrichment on set of parts of steel, and performing induction hardening on each of the pieces. The thermo chemical enrichment includes cementation enrichment of carbon steel or carbonitriding enrichment of carbon and nitrogen steels, and is performed at a temperature not less than the austenite transformation point of the steel. The process further comprises naturally cooling the parts by supplying air between the enrichment and induction hardening steps. The induction hardening step includes quenching the parts using quench air. The process comprises performing thermo chemical enrichment on set of parts of steel, and performing induction hardening on each of the pieces. The thermo chemical enrichment includes cementation enrichment of carbon steel or carbonitriding enrichment of carbon and nitrogen steels, and is performed at a temperature not less than the austenite transformation point of the steel. The process further comprises naturally cooling the parts by supplying air between the enrichment and the induction hardening step. The induction hardening step includes quenching the parts using quench air or water optionally added with polymers, and heating the parts by high and/or medium frequency induction at a temperature not less than the austenite transformation point of the steel. The enrichment is carried out to increase a surface carbon of the parts to a level of 0.9 wt.%. Independent claims are included for: (1) an installation for thermo chemically treating a set of pieces; and (2) a mechanical part of steel.
