The present invention relates to a process for obtaining copper nanoparticles from a fungus selected from hypocrea lixii and trichoderma koningiopsis. The present invention relates to the use of dead biomass of the fungus selected from hypocrea lixii and trichoderma koningiopsis to bioremediate copper-containing wastewater to produce copper nanoparticles. In the present invention, a rapid and inexpensive, environmentally friendly and easily expandable synthesis strategy for the biosynthesis and removal of copper nanoparticles is developed using the fungus hypocrea lixii or trichoderma koningiopsis as a reducing agent.
