The present invention relates to compositions of matter including a combination of a prebiotic compound and a probiotic compound. More particularly, the present invention relates to the combination of the probiotic Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) and the prebiotic Bifidobacterium lactis 12 (BB-12). The compositions of the present invention are useful for enhancing the immune system of a subject. The compositions of the present invention are also useful for enhancing the immune response to vaccination in a subject. The compositions of the present invention are also useful for enhancing the immune response to cancer in a subject.
