An oscillation start-up wind speed evaluation method and a type selection method for a composite insulator, comprising: performing finite element simulation on a composite insulator to acquire wind pressure distribution cloud pictures of upper and lower surfaces of an umbrella skirt (3); selecting a positive wind pressure concentration region which comprises a first umbrella skirt edge in a wind pressure distribution cloud picture of a lower surface; selecting a negative wind pressure concentration region which covers the positive wind pressure concentration region in the wind pressure distribution cloud picture of the lower surface, and manufacturing a loading plate of which the shape is consistent with that of the negative wind pressure concentration region; pasting the loading plate onto a corresponding position on the surface of the umbrella skirt (3), loading a weight on the loading plate so as to make the umbrella skirt (3) deform, measuring the deformation, and then computing a unit pressure deformation; and according to a correlation between the unit pressure deformation and the oscillation start-up wind speed, substituting the unit pressure deformation into the correlation, thereby obtaining the oscillation start-up wind speed of the composite insulator. The method is easy to operate and implement, can relatively accurately evaluate the oscillation start-up wind speed of a composite insulator, and can be used for selecting a composite insulator that can safely run in a strong wind region.
