A type selection method for a composite insulator in a strong wind area based on a structure parameter and a composite insulator. When selecting a type from among a plurality of composite insulators, the type selection method is as follows: firstly measuring a structure parameter of a composite insulator; then making a selection according to a certain range of each parameter; and testing the selected composite insulator to verify its capability of tolerating a strong wind climate environment where the highest wind speed achieves 50m/s. The composite insulator is the one having structure parameters within a certain range. When it is applied to a strong wind area where the highest wind speed achieves 50m/s, the problems of violent shed swinging and shed cracking will not occur, and the composite insulator can still operate reliably.
