The invention relates to a black box-type device which allows the analysis of the overtaking manoeuvres that a driver intends to perform or he is already engaged in. The device is provided with functions for assisting the driver during the overtaking manoeuvre by automatically analyzing the distances, speeds and accelerations of the overtaken vehicle and of oncoming one, by optically and acoustically warning in case of a forbidden, dangerous or risky overtaking or validating a safe manoeuvre which may be performed, the information related to the overtaking manoeuvre being stored in a special zone of a device non-volatile memory, together with images of the vehicles involved in the overtaking manoeuvre, taken by on-board video-cameras. According to the invention, the device (4) consists of an electronic module (1) provided with communication possibilities such as CAN, FlexRay, LAN and gate coupler functions taking over the vehicle dynamic parameters from some EPS (Electric Power Steering) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) electronic systems (8 and 9) mounted on the vehicle and from a GPS sensor (7), of an electronic module (2) provided with functions of analyzing and processing images and data coming from radar sensors (10, 11, 12; 13, 14; 15) mounted frontally, laterally and in the back of the vehicle, respectively, from some front, lateral and back video-cameras (20; 21, 22; 23), respectively, and of an electronic module (3) which analyzes the data from the other two modules (1 and 2), makes decisions, generates warning signals and memorizes the information associated to the driver's manoeuvres.
