Synthesis and Dissemination of Health Services Research for State and Municipal Health Leaders. Nursing Home Reimbursement: A Synthesis of Findings from Health Services Research and Demonstration Projects

This synthesis of research findings in the general area of Medicaid reimbursement for nursing home care of the elderly was prepared to provide policy makers at the state level with information on the issues, methods and findings of health services research relating to reimbursement. Reimbursement is a crucial element in the development of long term care strategies to meet future challenges in providing care for the elderly population. Information on the nursing home reimbursement system--its impact on quality, access, and costs of care as well as the patient's need is presented.
