Stockholm Review Committee action on India

In October, the Chemical Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention will consider the risk profile for endosulfan, another step in a process that PAN hopes will culminate in a global ban. The Chemical Review Committee has already agreed that endosulfan meets the screening criteria for a persistent organic pollutant, and the risk profile is the next stage. As reported in PN 82, the Indian Government was amongst a very small number of governments opposing its listing in the Rotterdam Convention last October, and it is expected that the Indian delegation will continue to block progress at the Stockholm Convention's POPs Review Committee.
