We are through the first week of August now and have accumulated record rainfall so far this year. At 50 inches plus we are at our annual rainfall total for an average year. After several years of drier than normal weather we have been caught with ourpants down to some degree. There is no doubt that scab susceptible varieties such as 'Desirable', 'Pawnee' and 'Schley' have taken a real hit this year. Some growers I have talked to expect to lose 50 percent of their crop of these varieties. Damage varies greatly across the South but there is no doubt that as these diseased nuts hit the ground, there will be measurable losses this year. In addition to losing a high percentage of the 'Desirable' crop, the unsprayed yard crop is pretty much history now.
