Orpic to reduce SOx emissions

The Oman Oil Refining and Petrochemical Industries Corporation (Orpic) has awarded a $15.8 million tender to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions at its Sohar refinery. According to Orpic, a study of the wet gas scrubber has identified issues with low flue gas temperature and high SOx emissions because the refinery feedstock contains 2.1-2.4 wt % sulphur, higher than the design sulphur content (1.6 wt %), leading to a SOx load on the WGS about 50% greater than design.
