摘要

The kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of benzyl alcohol and some ortho-substituted benzyl alcohols by pyridinium dichromate [PDC] in the absence of a co-substrate,oxalic acid,in 75-25% (v/v) acetic acid-water medium has been studied.The product of oxidation has been identified as the corresponding benzaldehyde.The stoichiometry of the reaction is found to be 1:1.The reaction is first order each in substrate and oxidant concentrations.
