Effects of the economy on innovation in food companies are discussed, with particular reference to the resilience of the food industry to recession. Aspects considered include: food products that have survived the test of time; new innovation from old templates; and nutritional drivers (omega-3, sodium, antioxidants, gluten free products, vitamin D).
