One approach to the determination of the parameters of a defect in a rod

A method for the stepwise determination of the parameters of a symmetrical fine incision in a rod is given for the analysis of bend vibrations. The method has been performed for the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko rod models; the equations that relate the resonance values for an undamaged rod and a rod with a defect have been obtained. Calculation experiments that display the high accuracy of the suggested method have been conducted.
