A surge in imports in the largest category, passenger tyres, caused the US rubber product trade deficit to jump 8.7% in 2012 to $11.2 billion, according to the latest data released by the US Commerce Department. Only three of 18 categories of rubber goods ended the year with a positive trade alliance. Imports gained ground on exports in 14 product sectors. The value of auto tyre imports increased by $673.6 million for the year, while exports from the US climbed $135.9 million.
