Evaluation of ultra wide angle 'ora-ora' high refractive index self-stabilizing contact lens for vitreous surgery.

Good visualization of the fundus is crucial for successful vitreous surery, and recently, various contact wide-angle systems have been developed for use in conjunction with a stereoinverter.1'2 Regular planoconcave contact lenses provide limited intraoperative field of view and require the need of a skillful surgical assistant to indent the globe through scleral depression to bring the peripheral retina into view.3"5 However, the indentation often distorts the three-dimensional relationship of vitreous to retina and renders subtle but relevant areas invisible. The panoramic wide-angle fundus viewing system allows visualization of the vitreous base, making it accessible to surgery without scleral depression.
