The lessons of leakage: Feedback from the IOR's Real Zero Leak reduction project has shown that more work can be done

Leakage has a financial impact on the refrigeration system and therefore on the equipment operator's business in a number of ways: through the direct cost of replacement; the cost of labour to locate and repair the leak and to recharge the refrigerant; through the additional cost of running an undercharged system and through the cost to business of any downtime in the cooling or refrigeration systems. Typical costs of leakage as the leak develops over time can be seen from the graph on the opposite page.
