Saskatchewan generates power from sawdust

La Ronge, SK - A demonstration project at a Saskatchewan saw mill is looking into the feasibility of using wood residue to generate heat and electricity. The two-year project, conducted by SaskPower, Saskatchewan Research Council and Ecology Energy at Zelensky Brothers saw mill in La Ronge, will make use of Ecology Energy's innovative technology to generate power. The technology involves applying heat and pressure to wood residue in a wood gasifier. The methane, hydrogen and carbon monoxide generated by this process will be used to power generators to create electricity. Some of the gas created will be used to operate the wood gasifier itself.
