Applications of an effective stress based liquefaction analysis method to engineering problems

A brief explanation is given to an effective stress based analysis method, LIQCA, and it is shown thatthe simulated results of the simple shear test considering OCR is consistent with the published testresults. Using the soil parameters thus defined, the following engineering problems are analyzed andthe results are briefly summarized: 1) the Kawagishi-cho apartment suffered during the 1964 NiigataEarthquake; 2) foundations of 20000k1 oil storage tank stiffened with the gravel drain method; and 3)embankments with and without steel sheet pile wall support.
