Table potatoes - does N-fertilization have to be variety-specific?

Results are presented from 3-year-trials on the impact of N-fertilizer on quality aspects of various potato varieties. Variety-specific differences were found for nitrate content and darkening after cooking. It is concluded that, although variety-specific recommendations concerning N-fertilization need to be made, the high number of cultivated varieties will prohibit standardized variety-specific optimum values.
