Nine out of 10 rhesus macaques survived a recent high-dose radiation attack.The "attack" was actually a preclinical pilot study of the investi-gational radioprotectant drug Neumune from San Diego-based Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals.The 10 primates each received the medicine several hours after exposure to a radiation dose tht the researchers determined approximately 50% of unterated animals should be able to survieve.
