Foundry industry need to move towards lean & cleaner technologies

At present the Indian foundry units are passing through critical challenges to reduce the cost of production, lower energy consumption, zero wastage and to produce zero defects castings etc. Energy is one of the important inputs in foundry units which constitutes about 12-15% of the total cost of production while melting the metal. In addition to havingenvironmentally sensitive processes, the business structure of the foundry industry has delayed its ability to develop and implement sustainable practices. The industry is primarily made up of small foundries with unique product and process combinations limiting the ability to develop technologies that benefit a large group of foundries. The new energy saving technologies can't be effectively viable for small size foundry units.
