Gleision trial highlights corporate culpability issue

LAWYERS, law MAKERS and health and safety professionals alike have been pondering the acquittal of a coal mine manager and MNS Mining on corporate manslaughter charges at Swansea Crown Court last month. The trial, which followed the deaths of four miners at the Gleison colliery in South Wales, was only the second under the 2007 Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, and the second where the prosecution has failed to gain a conviction.
