Consumers Energy Co. Asks FERC Not to Make Changes to Existing Authorizations Regarding the Sharing of Confidential Info between Power Companies and Gas Pipelines; Too Much Sharing Could Be a Bad Thing; And Shift Of Interstate Gas Infrastructure Use to Liquids Transportation Is Troubling Trend

On 8/16/13 the Consumers Energy Co. (RM13-17) urged FERC not to make changes to its existing authorizations regarding the sharing of non-public, operational information between electric transmission operators and natural gas pipelines. Consumers Energy claimed that the single most important action that the Commission could take to ensure reliability is to "recognize the need to retain existing interstate natural gas transportation infrastructure for the transportation of natural gas." The trend away from the expansion of the interstate natural gas infrastructure and toward greater use of this infrastructure for the transportation of oil and liquids, rather than natural gas, is a much greater threat to reliability than any failure to share non-public, operational information could ever be.
