Pharmacopolitics: reflections on a subspecialty of clinical pharmacology?

It would have been sometime between the autumn of 1972 and the summer of 1973 that Folke Sjoqvist introduced me to the term "pharmacopolitics". I have now forgotten the context, but the conviction that there is a political dimension to clinical pharmacology has remained with me. Indeed, with the passage of time, and the acquisition of experience, the significance of pharmacopolitics has become accentuated. Politics generally is about expressing and resolving conflicts, within society, without recourse to physical violence [1].
