More than 50% of all bruises are caused by rough, careless handling. It's time for fall calf runs and a quick refresher on how to curtail losses caused by poor handling and trucking practices. Estimates run as high as 46 million dollar in losses annually from bruises on cattle and hogs. Although the industry routinely monitors bruising, the fact is that as much as 100 dollar is lost on each 100 head of fed cattle, according to the Livestock Conservation Institute (LCI).
