Going Green

Abu Dhabi wants to go green fast and big. But the cost and challenges of the environmental energy push are rising as the world economy deteriorates and would-be lenders get the jitters. While the endeavor is more about diversifying Abu Dhabi's oil-dominated economy than reducing its carbon footprint, the harder conditions will test the emirate's commitment. Ironically, the outcome depends largely on the course of oil prices, after the bull run of recent years saw the Mideast Gulf nation fill its plate with ambitious projects.
