PURPOSE: To produce a water-holding and greening member excellent in environmental maintainability and useful for landscape gardening, etc., by combining a water-holding member with a greening fixation member fixed with moss plant gametophytes fixed thereto under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION: This water-holding and greening member is produced by combining a water-holding member including a water-absorbing foam using a phenolic resin with a greening fixation member in a state capable of transferring water from the water-holding member to the greening fixation member. Therein, the gametophytes of a moss plant such as Racomitrium canescens are fixed to the greening fixation member by a fixation means, such as a sewing means and/or a paper fiber-interlacing means, capable of maintaining the growable state of the gametophytes. Water is preferably contained in the water-holding and greening member, and greening by culturing the gametophytes of the moss plant in the water-holding greening member is preferable.
