The rules regarding benefits and tax are fairly complex and can vary from case to case. It is therefore important that both employee and employer use an accountant to ensure the package is structured in the most tax-efficient way. When employers and employees discuss remuneration, it is key that both are clear about the tax implications in order that there are no surprises for either party. An individual's employment package frequently includes much more than a basic salary, and many employers provide a range of perks to try to attract and incentivise the best people. It can be confusing trying to work out how much 'take-home' pay will be, particularly if there are also a number of benefits. Here, Mark Beaney explains the tax implications of the various packages around.
