Cheltenham Racecourse is home to one of Britain's great sporting occasions—namely The Cheltenham Festival. This event hosts the prestigious Championship Hurdle as well as the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Queen Mother Championship Steeplechase races. The Festival became an even bigger occasion this year with extension of racing to four consecutive days. As with many major sporting venues, Cheltenham Racecourse has superb facilities including The Centaur, a new multi-purpose centre which hosts events such as concerts, dinners and exhibitions when not in use for race days. As such, the racecourse facilities are in use for something during most of the year. However, apart from the prime quality racing it is the unique atmosphere particularly during TheFestival~(R) for which this racecourse is renowned. At this meeting there is a very strong contingent of race goers from Ireland present to follow the Irish horses, which produces a lot of friendly rivalry and banter.
