PROVIDING customers with as much information as necessary to gain their confidence in the product is an aspect of good marketing. It is a rule, that a western Victorian Hereford breeding business is now applying advantageously to its annual draft of store weaners. Last January, for the second time, Anne and John Wyld of Koolomurt Pastoral Pty Ltd, Coleraine, presented their weaner lots with a full description, including percentage in each muscle score, percentage in each fat score, and the average live-weight and range in liveweight (see Table 1). Apart from the confidence this data allows buyers, particularly those purchasing on behalf of feed-lots, Wyld says it also results in the accumulation of important data which will have a bearing on futuregenetic improvement in the herd.
