A large shrub or small tree, slow growing and reaching 10-25 feet in height. Leaves are deciduous, alternate, the new growth is distinctly hairy and grey when unfurling, turning to a green gray when mature; darker above and lighter on the underside ofthe leaf. Quince is a spring flowering tree with 2 inch white/pink flowers followed by a pome fruit that will ripen in the fall when subjected to a light frost. The bark is a grey toned brown that flakes and sheds off as the tree ages, very similar in ap-pearance to the Chinese quince. This is the Quince of commerce and is not to be confused with the Chinese quince (Pseudocydonia sinensis) or Japanese flowering quince (Chaenomeles).
