Trump wants TVa to consider ‘all factors’ in vote on Kentucky coal-fired facility

President Trump on Monday pressed the Tennessee Valley Authority to keep an aging Kentucky coal-fired power plant open. The TVA board is due to meet Thursday morning to vote on continued operation of its 1,150 MW Paradise Unit 3, a 49-year-old coal- fired unit in Muhlenberg County. TVA on Monday laid out the reasons it was considering closing the facility. In an impact statement, TVA said that as a large coal unit with “medium operating costs, as well as the need for significant repairs, Paradise Unit 3 does not fit current and likely future portfolio needs.”
